YouTube - Photographers job on the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

For me, as I just took about 20 pictures of myself in my new fancy dress for the Wall Street dinner in order to show Dan, here is what helps:

• Face body towards camera: just more flattering for las curves, I think.
• Look down, not up. Issue is that my chin is rather not prominent so when I look up it just disappears into my neck in the photo and I look entirely chinless, rather than the desired double-chin-less.
• Turn head to left and down (as mentioned above), tilt head slightly away, look back.
• Smile. Easier to get away with a "demure" smile than an all out one, otherwise face gets wayyyyy too round.
• REALLY HELPFUL: keep arms by sides and extend both arms and fingers, as in dancing. Turning the arms into smooth lines like this is really slimming.
• Shoulders back, draw tailbone down, as in ballet posture.

The end of summer.

First of all, as Amy says, Stardust was really surprisingly good. And funny! The costumes and special effects were fun, but I fell in love with the story and all the actors. Claire Danes was luminous, and Charlie Cox with the hair and the coat...mmhmm. It had its little flaws, and it's over 2 hours long, but it all went by pretty quickly. I almost wish the falling-in-love part went on longer.

Amy and I made up 2/5 of the audience. Dan and I have discussed this idea of movie theaters adjusting their ticket prices based on anticipated or proven success, much like airlines adjusting flight prices depending on the flight's popularity. I mean, they're running the movie anyway, so they might as well try to fill up more of the seats. There are so many movies that I might be tempted to see if they were half the current price, but $7.50 min for a movie I'm only vaguely interested in? You're not going to get me that way.

So, my internship ended last Friday, and my last art class was on Monday night (although I have to go back to Batik twice, once to iron stuff I did on Monday night, once to pick up everything once it comes back from the dry cleaners--to remove all the wax--and then I have to go back to pottery twice, once to do glazing on my last few pieces, once to pick up the fired things), before I came home at my mother's urging. Moving over to BC with Em's help and a zipcar went surprisingly well, although I'm not unpacked from that.

I may continue working at MGP on Thursdays through the fall, depending on how my class schedule ends up, but either way they're going to pay me a bit to make samples for them from home, which will be a nice little side source of income. I've been scheduled to work 13 hours a week at the computer lab! I've never worked that much there! We'll see how it goes...I would prefer it to be a bit more spread out, I think, but again, class schedule still unsettled.

Med school apps are coming along. Thesis work is not as much, but I have to wrassle it into shape soon, so I will. I did do some reading that I've been meaning to get done, so that was good, and I'm having a good time at home thus far. It's just that the prospect of going back to school and taking classes and dealing with senior year and what happens next, all that makes for this constant panicky, stressing out feeling in the back of my mind. I would like for there to be a time when I could stop, for two minutes, with no present or future obligations to be worrying about.

A couple revelations.

Fresh, raw corn? REALLY FREAKING GOOD! But then I put it into the corn chowder soup I made for dinner, to which I also added some chorizo (among other things), leading to revelation #2: like bacon, but even moreso, adding chorizo to things just makes them better. So delicious, it mostly made up for various frustrating parts of my day.

[edit] The fresh corn is from the CSA share that Em and I have been splitting. I really quite enjoy getting local produce from the farmer who actually grows it, even though the yields vary a bit from week to week, and it takes a bit of work to plan my meals around the random items that we get. I got my first local/organic/free-range meat share two weekends ago so that's another thing to plan around, too. My sources of protein this summer have largely been eggs and cheese (I go through about 8 oz. crumbled goat cheese and a dozen eggs week...) so reintroducing meat into it this week made me feel heavy.

Art classes update: have finished Basics of Interior Design and Kinetic Sculpture, attended a Natural Dyeing workshop, almost finished with Jewelry & Metalsmithing, and have started Beginning Wheelthrowing (pottery) and Batik. Wheelthrowing? IS REALLY HARD. I was sore all over the second day! But during the second lesson I actually threw a pot that was not lopsided! Nevermind that the bottom came off when I took it off the wheel because I made it too thin. That can be fixed, young grasshopper.

My film final, finally!

Because one of the processing labs got really backed up and was slow in returning students' films to them, our professor kept extending the deadline through finals period last year (Fall semester '06) until there was no time left to do sound editing if you were leaving early (as I was) and the film showing was in second semester (when I was not at BC). I left them instructions on how to do the sound, which turned out pretty well, but then it took ages to get a DVD of the film because Diana needed to do it for me and it was hard to get in contact with the film class TAs and such. And Diana kept forgetting to give me the DVD, but she finally did today! Yay! And now I've ripped it with Handbrake and uploaded it onto YouTube. It has some continuity flaws because I didn't have enough footage to choose from or I had issue with the splicing machine that destroyed a couple frames that would've made certain transitions easier, and I also ran out of editing tape near the end and so didn't get the rhythm perfect, but overall, I quite like it. Enjoy!
