tsa chapter: competitions


The proceeds generated from the fundraisers go towards supporting the chapter's attendance at TSA competitions, both regional and national.

On March 25, 2004, sixty-eight High Technology High School students went to The College of New Jersey to attend the NJTSA State Conference/competition. All of the participants at the conference worked hard on their projects and were professional throughout the entire day. High Tech brought home a record number of first places that day.

The following students placed first in their competitions: - Katya Alexandrova and Andy Lau (Agriculture and Biotechnology Design)
- Adam Hecht and Glenn stroz (Computer Construction and Troubleshooting, received $500 each toward the HTHS TSA Chapter)
- Eric Gallimore (Electronic Research and Experimentation)
- Melissa Perri (Desktop Publishing)
- Danielle Dai (Imaging Technology)
- Erin Fischell and Caity Bogdan (Medical Technology)
- Elizabeth Kang (Prepared Presentation)
- Joseph Hall III, Chris Dellin, and Alex Pedersen (System Control Technology)
- Katherine Wu, Philip Graff, Chris Harris, Andrew Babbin, and Adrienne Felt (Cyberspace Pursuit, each received a $1000 scholarship to Johnson and Wales University)

These students will have the opportunity to attend the TSA National Conference in Nashville TN from June 20th to June 24th.

The following students placed 3rd in their competitions: - Jordan Schneider (Extemporaneous Presentation)
- Brian Dorfman and Victor La (Manufacturing Prototype)
- Katya Alexandrove (Prepared Presentation)
- Chris Janover and Patrick Hickey (Radio Controlled Transportation)
- Andrew Rittenbach (Technical Research and Report Writing)

During the awards cermony Elizabeth Kang handed over her position as State Treasurer to Kenny Liu, another HTHS TSA Chapter Member and Erin Fischell claimed her position as the TSA State Vice President. Congratulations to those members.

On March 27, 2003, all 53 members of last year's chapter competed at the Regional TSA Conference, hosted by The College of New Jersey. Students competed in events that incorporated technology into the areas of film, photography, construction, computer troubleshooting, medicine, electronics, computer aided design, and web design. Nearly half of the chapter's members won an award for their respective competitions.

- Philip Graff, Chris Harris, Kenny Liu, and Katherine Wu (Cyberspace Pursuit)
- Erin Fischell and Kathy Wakeham (Medical Technology)
- Adrienne Felt (Prepared Presentation)

The following students placed second in their competitions: - Rob Decotiis and John Penning (Computer Construction and Troubleshooting)
- Katie Kavett (Desktop Publishing)
- Eric Gallimore (Electronic Research and Experimentation)
- Emily Israel (Imaging Technology)
- Philip Lee (Transportation Modeling)

The following students placed third in their competitions: - Michael Finley (Computer Aided Design 2D)
- Ryan Curry and Alex Rospos (Radio Control Transportation)
- Joseph Curatolo (Technical Sketching and Application)
- Alexander Duff and Michael Soltys (Technology Challenge)

In late June 2003, six students went on to compete at the 25th Annual National TSA Conference in Orlando, Florida. They brought back a first place trophy for Construction Systems, a second place trophy for Medical Technology, and Finalist for Cyberspace Pursuit.

In 2002, six members of High Tech's chapter went to the national competition (High Tech's first appearance). There, in Denver, student Eric Gallimore won first place in Electronic Systems.
