technology education: juniors

At the end of their sophomore year, each student chooses from four technology courses they will take during their junior and senior years. Two of the courses (Computer Science and Computer Aided Design and Drafting) are held at Brookdale Community College. Another choice, Digital Electronics, is a continuation of the Project Lead the Way program. The final choice, Cisco Networking Academy Program, is taught by a CCNA (Cisco Certified Networking Associate) and CCAI (Cisco Certified Academy Instructor) certified teacher.

The Computer Science courses focus on different computer programming languages, from assembly to high-level programming languages like C++. The Computer Science students have one lecture class each week and one lab class in which they write their own programs and work on class projects. The students take a different college class each semester, focusing on different programming languages.

The Computer Aided Design and Drafting class allows students to learn more advanced drafting and CAD skills. The classes focus on drafting technical drawings and then moves on to 3D design and architectural design. CADD students gain experience using industry-standard programs such as AutoCAD and AutoDesk VIZ while creating computer-generated technical drawings. These students also take a different class each semester.

The Digital Electronics class, taught by Mr. Bob Dennis, is a course in applied logic that encompasses the application of electronic circuits and devices. Computer simulation software software is used to design and test digital circuitry prior to the actual construction of circuits and devices.

The Cisco Networking Academy Program uses a curriculum provided by Cisco Systems to teach students the basics of networking Local and Wide Area Networks. They are trained in network design, and router operation and configuration. The students are given the option of taking the CCNA (Cisco Certified Networking Associate) test at the completion of the course to earn official certification from Cisco. Upon passing, students are certified to work as networkers in the corporate world.
