Technology Education Program Solution to Design Brief TSA Chapter
[ overview ] [ freshman ] [ sophomore ] [ junior ] [ senior ]
[ Engineering Design and Development ] [ Senior Mentorship ]

In senior year, students continue with the second year of the technology course tracks of their junior year. The Computer Science and Computer Aided Drafting and Design students continue to take the college courses related to that track while Cisco students finish the last two semesters of their course.

For the last year of Project Lead The Way, students take the course Engineering Design and Development. The class is a senior design project class in which students can either invent or innovate some technological device. They take their chosen project from beginning to end, building it, and working with a corporation to try to patent the device. A teacher guides the students as a mentor but does not play a direct part. They must present progress reports, submit a final written report and defend their solutions to a panel of outside reviewers at the end of the school year.

Senior students of HTHS also participate in a mentorship program. The program is in lieu of participating in the college courses for one semester. Students work side by side with an engineer, scientist or researcher doing real-time research in a technological field of their interest two mornings each week. Cisco Networking Academy students must have a Cisco mentorship. Through this experience, students can carefully consider if they truly wish to work in the field of their mentorship and thus be better prepared to make decisions once they reach college. At the conclusion of the mentorship, each student delivers a multimedia presentation in a colloquium of peers and mentors. This summarizes all the formal and informal learning at the conclusion of the senior year.
