circles are happy.

This version, titled "Circles are happy." was created on 1/2/04. Good start for the new year, right? Well actually, everyone else was putting up pretty new layouts, so I thought, why not...I have to give thanks to Paci because I couldn't get a good idea sketched out so I wandered around on the bbs looking for someone to talk to and behold! There was the mighty Paci! So I asked him for inspiration and even though he didn't say anything about graphic stuff, I got this thing here as you see it (pretty much. designs are always tweaked at least a little bit).

The face/vase illusion is known as Rubin's Vase. I thought it would be pretty cool do something with an optical illusion, but I'm not sure if it worked out well (for the optical illusion). I do like the banner a lot, though. I think this maybe the first time that I've really used a banner in a layout. Speaking of the general layout, yes, it's quite similar to Adrienne's current layout in terms of where things are set and the circles (a little). Hers is where I got the idea to create a mini-blog, the sidebar that you see. There I'll post the random funny quotes that come up in my frequent aim conversations that I've run out of room to put on my aim profile. It's there by SSI, w00t w00t for figuring that out without too much pain.

The quotes in the banner and on the bottom are as follows:

I should not talk so much
about myself if there were
anyone else whom I knew
as well.
- Henry David Thoreau

I do it for the joy it brings
because I'm a joyful girl
because the world owes me nothing
and we owe each other the world
- Ani DiFranco

"I am glad it cannot happen twice, the fever of first love. For it is a fever, and a burden, too, whatever the poets may say." - Daphne Du Maurier, Rebecca (thank you to Adrienne for giving me a first edition copy for Christmas '02!)

The first two quotes I saw at Nobody's Doll and I really liked them so I copied them over here where they won't get lost. That's the reason behind choosing those quotes, really, it's just because I like them. The background is shamefully stolen from Robot Johnny (edited a little in Photoshop to make it light gray) because I couldn't find a nice inobstrusive background that I liked anywhere else and I didn't know how to make my own. I did email him to ask permission but he hasn't gotten back to me yet. If he does and wants me to take it down, I'll replace it with something else, but for now, I like it!

Fonts: Edwardian Script ITC for the quotes, Franklin Gothic Book for the title (just the fool's april bit, I didn't use it anywhere else). Banner created using Photoshop 6.0 (Rubin's Vase from a random jpg I found somewhere online and then edited). The colors I found in a folder on my hard drive titled "Mena's colors." I think I copied the colors from an old layout of Mena's, probably from the Dollar Short days even. I didn't (and still don't) really have that good a sense for different colors that go well together, so I saved hers...I apologize for all the "borrowing" from the different sources used in this layout, but I think I did manage to put it all together uniquely.
